Amanda Huisamen

Amanda graduated in 1988 with a B.Soc.Sc. at Natal University majoring in Industrial Psychology/Sociology.  She spent the next 11 years working in the Human Resources field before moving down to Cape Town with her husband.  After years of poor posture, sitting in front of a computer and raising two small children Amanda found her neck and back increasingly painful.  Despite the short term relief obtained from chiropractic adjustments and physiotherapy the pain continued.

After being referred by a friend to Pilates, Amanda has never looked back.  Her improved posture, increased energy and pain relief were marked.  It was then that she decided to change careers and registered with the HFPA to complete a Basic Exercise Course. Following that she completed a comprehensive Pilates Mat course with Renee Watson Studio in Constantia.  Eighteen months later Maya Pilates Studio was opened in Glencairn Heights (February 2007).

Presently Amanda teaches 9 mat classes of 1 hour each a week.  The classes on average have no more than 6 in a session and each client is personally assessed and oriented into Pilates before they join a class.  Amanda is passionate about her clients, many who have been with her since inception. “ I want my clients to feel valued as individuals in a warm professional environment. I want them to not only feel better physically from their time in the studio but mentally and emotionally as well”.
